Nansha's new cultural tourism landmark: 1958 granary reborn as heritage library

The Liangcangli Branch of Nansha District Library, a renovated 1958 granary originally built for overseas Chinese farms, opened to the public free of charge at Liangcangli Cultural and Creative Park along Zhujiang Street on June 15.

After undergoing renovations, the 270-square-meter venue retains its original red-brick walls, ancient banyan trees and leftover grain conveyor frames. It is split into three sections for reading, folk culture displays and leisure.

As the district's first intangible cultural heritage-themed library, it houses over 7,700 books with a dedicated section on Lingnan culture and heritage. A special zone for young readers is also available within the venue.

The library blends quiet reading with trendy cultural experiences. Displays of phoenix coronets, decorative fans and unicorn-themed bamboo craft showcase local heritage. A Dragon Boat Festival event with zongzi-making sessions was held on opening day to highlight overseas Chinese traditions.

The 11,000-square-meter cultural park has transformed former industrial buildings into a mixed-use destination for reading, creative activities and leisure. The project preserves the site's industrial heritage while introducing public cultural facilities and commercial spaces, giving new life to previously unused buildings. It stands as a vivid example of cultural revitalization under the Rural Revitalization Program.
