Nansha to launch rent-free policy for solo startups

Guangzhou's Nansha district will roll out targeted support for "one-person companies", including rent exemptions and subsidies, as part of a new entrepreneurship policy announced at an innovation event on March 24.

The policy, designed for freelancers and micro-startups—also known as OPC (One Person Company)—aims to lower entry barriers and enable individuals to launch businesses with minimal upfront costs.

Qualified projects will be offered up to 36 months of rent-free office space, followed by discounted leases. Subsidies of up to 50 percent will be provided for computing power and AI model applications, while additional support includes free basic office services and reduced fees for accounting and business registration.

Housing incentives are also included. Entrepreneurs and teams settling in the community can access discounted accommodation, with top-tier talent and fresh graduates eligible for up to one year of free housing.

The initiative is backed by upgraded digital infrastructure, including ultra-fast broadband capable of near real-time response speeds, aimed at supporting AI and data-intensive startups.

Positioned as an open platform, the OPC community has already attracted more than 10 project teams. It plans to bring in major tech service providers within the next three years.

Officials said the goal is to enable entrepreneurs to start operations with minimal costs and hassle, and scale quickly in a supportive ecosystem.
