How does Nansha transform from geographic center to intelligence center?

Updated: 2019-01-18

From the landing of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), to the only National Basic Education Curriculum Reform Experimental Zone in Guangdong, and then to the recently unveiled Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Provincial Laboratory (Guangzhou), Nansha has recently been earning a good deal of attention.

Located at the geographic center of the Guangdong-HongKong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Nansha strengthens cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao in education so as to provide a basic and long-lasting development impetus and intelligent support for the whole district.

And Nansha will meet the needs of Hong Kong and Macao people living in Guangzhou for a high-end and internationalized education layout.

How does Nansha attract Hong Kong and Macao schools?

Nansha primary and secondary schools have established sister relationships with Hong Kong and Macao schools.

In March 2018, more than 100 teachers and students from Guangdong and Hong Kong participated in a series of scientific and technological exchanges and then visited the Guangdong Science Center. The friendship between the students was enhanced and their horizons were broadened.

In 2018, Nansha and Macao Tourism College conducted in-depth exchanges and cooperation in the areas of vocational education skills certification benchmarks, and more than 100 people obtained international certificates.

At the unveiling ceremony of the Southern Marine Science and Engineering Guangdong Laboratory (Guangzhou), a marine geography research team led by academician Ye Jiaan of the University of Hong Kong confirmed that it will be joining the laboratory.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) also officially landed in Nansha. This is the third co-hosted university with Hong Kong and Macao, after the Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen).

In addition, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will focus on the development of cutting-edge disciplines such as artificial intelligence, data science, and robotic automation systems.

If Hong Kong institutions come to the mainland, they are supported in research funding, student training, and market transformation of scientific research achievements. Mainland schools can improve their internationalization level through cooperation activities.

How to meet the needs of international talents?

In the past two years, Nansha has successively introduced high-quality education schools such as the Nansha School affiliated to South China Normal University, Erzhong Tianyuan School and the Middle School (Nansha) Experimental School, attracting many talents to settle in Nansha.

With the successive support policies of science and technology, a large number of high-tech enterprises and experts have settled in Nansha. Facing the future, Nansha must meet the diverse educational needs of local residents, high-end talents and Hong Kong and Macao people. It is necessary to create a “suitable education layout” to establish an educational status that matches Nansha's positioning.

The Guangzhou Foreign Language School, which re-opened 10 years ago, has opened “2+1” international courses and AP international courses while offering domestic junior high school and high school courses. It has enrolled many Hong Kong and Macao students.

The Nansha Experimental Kindergarten, which started in September 2018, was the first one in the country to explore ways of cooperating with teaching and research institutions. The directors, teaching materials and educational methods are all from the Guangzhou Education Research Institute.
